Narrative Treatment
Theo has been working the same boring office at Onca Inc. for the last 10 years. While sitting at his cubicle, identical to all those around him, Theo hears the chimes of an ice cream truck, and looks hopeful that the monotony of his job will be broken for a short while. As Theo is looking out the window someone passed by, dropping a large stack of papers on his desk and blocking the window from view, taking his hope with it. Later on in the day, Theo receives some bad news that makes him decide that enough is enough. It is time to quit is job and escape the corporate world.
Scene comes in from black then zooms into a close show of Theo’s cubicle after showing all of the identical ones around him. Shows Theo working in his cubicle and the very dreary environment around him.
Nothing can be seen through the window yet but music typical of an ice cream truck can be heard and Theo is visibly interested and questioning what the music could be from.
The ice cream truck appears within the shot. While everything else in the scene is very dreary the ice cream truck is very vibrant. Theo is excited.
Someone passes by Theo’s cubicle tossing a large stack of papers on his desk and blocking the truck from view, mumbling “get these in before you leave”. When this happens the music can no longer be heard is Theo becomes visibly disappointed.
Jump cuts to many hours later. Theo is towards the end of the pile, but falls asleep at his desk. The scene goes black as his head falls against the desk
Jump cuts to a small amount of time later, the computer screen lights up, waking up Theo as a result.
Jump cuts to Theo’s computer screen. The screen shows a notification for an unread email. The title reads “PAY CUT”.
The camera zooms out to show Theo’s shocked reaction.
The camera zooms in to a close up show of Theo. Showing his anger regarding the situation.
The camera shows Theo getting up from his desk and dashing out of frame to go tell his boss that he is quitting.
